A one-off, custom-ordered Martin (complete with “Custom” stamp on the heel block), this OM-28V features a traditional Pre-War feature set including herringbone purfling, with a selection of premium tonewoods including an Italian Alpine spruce top and Madagascar rosewood back/sides.
The top features 1/4” scalloped Adirondack spruce bracing, and this OM-28V benefits from Martin’s longer 25.4″ scale, resulting in a bold tone with tons of definition and clarity. A highly vaunted spruce that offers the detail and immediacy of Adirondack, yet with more warmth and sweetness out-of-the-box, Italian Alpine spruce is an ideal soundboard for players that desire the qualities of Adirondack yet with a slightly more relaxed, “broken-in” sound. The beautifully bookmatched Madagascar rosewood back/sides offer qualities similar to Brazilian rosewood. The guitar is very sympathetic to fingerpicking and flatpicking dynamics, with a high volume ceiling, exquisite string-to-string clarity and a piano-like broadband quality when strumming a chord. This OM-28V features Martin’s aging toner on top according to the factory spec sheet, yet the coloration of the spruce leaves the top very pale, highlighting subtle bearclaw figuring on the lower bout. The gloss nitro lacquer is also Martin’s Thin Finish application, ensuring optimal resonance. Exceedingly clean, there are just a couple very faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body. The satin finish on the neck profile is flawless.
