Rickenbacker 330, black, made in USA 1994. The 330 is all class: there’s not many guitars that have the same presence and class as this. They’ve found their way into the hands of players as diverse as Kevin Parker, Pete Townsend and Johnny Marr, and the design is just about unchanged from it’s launch in 1958. It’s a great sound: jangly and chiming, with a breathy midrange and a percussive, juicy bass. It’s perfect for big rhythm parts: no wonder they were so popular in the 60s, because dang: find me a better guitar to play big open chords on if you can. It’s lightweight and comfy, with a slim but agreeable neck; you’re never working too hard once you get used to the geometry of the thing. This one is a 90s example, so it’s got the excellent Hi-Gain single coils, a few scuffs and marks around the place and a very tidy build and finish job. The black looks all the better with a bit of play on the clock, it has an air of confidence. You better practice your windmill strums!
