Rare 1970s Thomson Splendor Series Mustang
Made in Japan, from the Teisco factory, this guitar is a throwback to Fender’s Competition Mustang with a similar appearance and layout.
The features include a Dakota Red finish, a 3-ply black pickguard, and competition stripes. It has a “C” profile neck with a rosewood fingerboard, a 24¾” scale length, 21 frets, and a 42mm nut. Unlike vintage Fender’s 7.25″ fingerboard radius, this model offers a faster and sleeker 12″ radius.
The single-coil pickups produce excellent midrange tones with a bright, sparkly sound. The pickups are wired in series, each with its own on/off switch. The guitar is equipped with a roller bridge and sealed tuners. Although it may feel a bit cheaply made, this adds to its charm and appeal.
The guitar shows wear, but is functional. The neck is nearly straight, with about 60% frets remaining despite noticeable wear; the 6th string tuner peg is slightly bent but still functional.
This guitar is sold as is with the understanding of the above issues.
