momose Modern Virtuoso series
Ikebe original order model with tortoiseshell pickguard!
Introduction
The ‘Virtuoso’ in the series name is an English word that means a master, expert, master, or great master of art (especially music).
When you hear ‘master of music,’ you may have a slightly ostentatious image of a portrait hanging in a music room, but nowadays, various expressions can be made on various platforms, mainly SNS, and anyone can express themselves without hesitation.
The new series ‘Modern Virtuoso series’ from Momose Custom Craft Guitars, produced by the Asuka Factory in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, pays respect to the history of traditional electric guitars, while reviewing and updating the specifications of the details to develop electric guitars that fit the modern music scene where all guitarists can become masters.
This is a valuable lineup produced by the skilled craftsmen of Asuka Factory, who started production in 1977 and have steadily accumulated skills and experience while watching the times for over 40 years.
Straight grain maple neck
The wood is cut with a ‘straight grain’ that is more resistant to warping than the necks of general electric guitars. When cutting wood from a log, the yield is low and not much of this grain can be obtained, but when used for the neck, the grain is stronger against the tension of the strings, resulting in a strong neck with less neck movement such as forward and backward warping, which is common in electric guitars.
Pickups
The Classic Strat, which was created with the aim of producing a clean sound with a clear outline reminiscent of the Strat of the 1950s, is placed in the front and center, and the Clone ’59 model, which aims to reproduce the PAF, adds a modern flavor, slightly emphasizes the bass, and is adjusted to have a longer sustain, is placed in the rear.
GOTOH Bridge
Equipped with a reliable two-point support tremolo unit made by GOTOH.
The 510T series does not stick to the traditional vintage style, but pursues functionality as a tremolo device. Equipped with a unique arm system with low clearance. In order to ensure the strength and wear resistance of the edge part that serves as the fulcrum of movement, high-hardness chrome molybdenum steel is used for the plate. Finished with precision machining and high-level heat treatment. The fulcrum part is a two-point support anchor nut type that uses a stud lock (PAT.). In addition, by equipping it with a block with a FST mechanism (PAT.) molded into a unique shape to avoid interference of the strings with the plate between the saddle and the ball end, the tuning recovery after arming has been dramatically improved.
Hipshot Pegs
Adopts locking pegs from Hipshot, which was founded in California in 1983. The combination of a precisely cut 18:1 gear and nylon bearings maintains smooth usability and accurate tuning for a long time. The height of the pegs is different for each string, giving the appropriate tension to the nut. This mechanism eliminates the need for a string guide.
For example, when performing extreme arm bending, the strings wrapped around the string guide and peg post from the nut many times are a major factor in causing the tuning to go out of tune when returning from arm down. By using Hipshot’s locking pegs, the strings are almost completely wrapped around the peg post (about half a turn around the peg post) and do not get caught in the string guide. This dramatically improves the stability of tuning after arm bending.
Frets
We use JESCAR frets, which are now standard in modern component guitars. JESCAR frets, created with the technical capabilities that have been involved in development in the precision machinery field for decades, have achieved a quality that is not only uniform and stable in appearance but also compared to existing frets.
Oil-soaked high-density buffalo bone nut
Generally, nuts and saddles are made from a variety of materials, including cow bone, tusk, ivory, brass, plastic, and carbon fiber, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages, but Momose products have consistently used cow bone.
This time, we have adopted a nut made from buffalo bone, which is denser than conventional nuts and ensures stable quality.
Even with cow bone, the density of the bone varies depending on the part of the body and individual differences…
