This guitar is quite the anomaly. A Super Sound from 1978 with a blue sparkle finish and a cream competition stripe. Definitely not in the catalog so perhaps it was a special order. The headstock features the small Super Sound logo and Greco branded tuning machines, while the maple neck is fitted with a maple slab fingerboard with a heavy gloss finish. The body is most likely sen (Japanese ash) and is equipped with the desirable Maxon Excel engraved pickups that were available for a short time on the higher end models. A 3-way switch and the usual 1 volume, 2 tone knob control array control the output. The bridge/tremolo unit is missing it’s cover as well as the tremolo arm.
Cosmetically the guitar is in remarkable condition. There is some mild buckle rash on the back, a small chip out of the paint at the neck joint, a tiny dent and some faint picking scratches to the front, and some darkening of the wood at the headstock edge in places and that is basically it. The frets are robust with very little signs of wear and the finish, plastics and hardware – even the screws – remain vibrant and at a glance appear almost new.
A joy to play, very comfortable with a small D shaped neck and low action. The truss rod can be adjusted and the neck is almost perfectly straight but has been shimmed for optimum playability. The electronics are functioning as they should and the guitar has received our standard full set-up so it will be ready for action straight out of the box.
