The very first full body electric guitar marketed by Fender in 1950 was the Esquire. With an elegant single cutaway shape, an adjustable bridge with 3 saddles, and a single repurposed lap-steel pickup in the bridge position, the Esquire set the stage for all full-body electric guitars that followed, heralding the arrival of its more famous sister, the Telecaster. Like the early Esquire models, the 70th Anniversary Esquire features a pine body, a lightweight tonewood known for its big, complex tone, and perfects it with our roasting treatment, greatly enhancing the body’s resonance. Other features include a lacquer finish, thick U-shaped neck, Tim Shaw-designed Esquire bridge pickup (inspired by an original 1950s Esquire from the Songbirds Museum in Chattanooga, TN), a special anniversary joint plate and a tweed case. Production of the 70th Anniversary Esquire will be limited to 2020 only
