The Big River: “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” 5/8

Up for sale is another Big River Custom Telecaster. One of my favorite guitars is the Fender ’72 Deluxe Telecaster. I figured since it’s been 50 years since it’s inception, I would try and put together several different versions of my own take on this iconic Tele. The first one sold incredibly fast, so i tried my best to get
this next one I had in mind finished and listed. After those, I just kept getting ideas, now my plan is to have eight different ‘72 Deluxe’s built by the end of the year. If you don’t get your hands on this one don’t fret, I am in the middle of building two more.

Almost everything on this Tele is top of the line and brand new. So here I started with a brand new Black Fender Squire Affinity Deluxe Tele body. These Squire bodies are comfortable and nice and light weight compared to other bodies like these. This guitar actually weighs in at 5lbs. 12oz. So perfect for someone who wants a Les Paul killer, but doesn’t want a boat anchor around their neck!

The neck is a 2022 Fender Road Worn 70’s Tele Deluxe neck with the large and in charge headstock. It is maple with a maple board. It is finished in Nitro Lacquer, then hand distressed to recreate the look and feel of a well loved instrument. It boasts a medium “C” neck, 9.5” radius, 21 medium jumbo frets, and a synthetic bone nut and the bullet tipped truss rod. I aged the period correct “F” stamped Fender vintage tuners along with the rest of the hardware, including the Fender neck plate on back. This neck is incredibly comfortable and just flat out awesome looking.

To add to the tuning stability, Ive installed a Fender American hardtail bridge with the bent steel saddles. All of the hardware on this guitar was aged here in house, including the bridge.

Under the hood, Ive upgraded the wiring harness with CTS 500k pots, two of which are push/pulls to split the humbuckers, two black bee .022 paper in oil capacitors, and a Switchcraft input jack.

The real magic here is the set of Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates. These pickups are that classic ‘59 PAF but with a little edge to them. These pickups can be warm, sweet sounding and beautiful, but can get down right aggressive when you need them to be. Those chimney highs, their endless sustain and incredible harmonics has made these the go to humbuckers for tons of musicians. These pickups feel right at home in brighter instruments, which make them the perfect choice for this ‘72 Deluxe Telecaster.

Anyway, this surely isn’t a custom shop Fender, but like all of my other custom builds I really work hard and am deliberate in choosing different components that I feel will sound the best together. This Big River “Knockin’ on Heavens Door” is one glorious Tele that could make St. Peter himself open the Pearly Gates extra wide to hear this glorious tone.

My instruments receive a full setup, with a
deep body/neck cleaning and polish. All
gloss maple boards are polished, while all
rosewood/darker boards receive an F1 &
lemon oil treatment. make sure all
electronics are in working order and if
something under the hood needs to be
changed, I make that determination
based upon what type/year guitar im
working on. But either way I am upfront in
my listing. Guitars are set up with
D’Addario XL 9-42’s. Action is checked.
and adjusted to Low-Med if necessary,
and tuning and intonation is set on all
instruments before I pack them to be shipped.

It always made me feel good when i
pulled a guitar out of a box and basically
only had to tune it up to pitch and away
you go, so I try to afford you the buyer, of
that same courtesy. Understand though
set ups are a truly personal thing. I
cannot guarantee everything but I try to
use the bell curve when it comes to
setting up instruments, so even if there is
something you wanted changed it is not a
big ordeal. Feel free to ask if there is
something specific you would like.
Anywho thank you for checking us out, if
you have any questions feel free to ask, if
there are any upgrades you wish to have
done on any guitar, let me know and I
promise I will be incredibly fair when
offering quotes for upgrades. Even if you
know you want to upgrade for example
the stock pickups on a MIM Fender Tele
but don’t know to what, shoot me a
message, I have knowledge on a wide
range tonal options.
