Up for sale, a 1986 Kramer American Series Pacer Deluxe in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. An instrument with a unique pedigree, the “American” guitars featured bodies and necks crafted in Japan by ESP and assembled in the USA at Kramer’s Neptune, NJ factory with USA-made hardware and electronics including Seymour Duncan pickups and a genuine Floyd Rose tremolo. The tonewood complement includes an alder body, maple neck, and 22 fret maple fingerboard ensuring an articulate, balanced natural acoustic tone.
The bridge position humbucker is the Seymour Duncan JB, Duncan’s original hot-rodded humbucker, metering at a robust 15.5k ohms. The low end is full and powerful, the highs are crisp and detailed, and there’s an upper-midrange bump that adds crunch and chunk to heavy chords, translating to a singing, vocal-like quality when playing single notes or solos. The pickup has its factory “JBJ” sticker, with the “J” suffix noting that the humbucker was wound by Marcelina Juarez, the legendary pickup winder and queen of Seymour Duncan’s Custom Shop. A three-way mini toggle offering parallel, split and series coil wiring configurations for the humbucker too. The neck and middle pups are a pair of SSL-1s, vintage-spec Strat-style single coils that provide plenty of sparkle, spank, and bite. Weighing 7lbs 7oz, this Kramer has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, shred-ready action, and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders in every register, measuring .775” deep at the first fret and .910” at the 12th. The 22-fret maple fretboard features black dot inlay and original medium jumbo frets which have plenty of meat and show no wear. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The scale length is 25 1/2” and the locking nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The headstock features a gold “Block”-style Kramer American logo, specific to ‘85-’86. The original black Schaller tuners turn smoothly and hold consistent pitch.
On the body, the electronics all function as intended with a five-way pickup selector switch, Master Volume, two Tone controls, and three-way mini toggle. The Original Floyd Rose tremolo is in exceptional condition, highly responsive for sharp flutters and deep divebombs. The tremolo cavity cover has been removed, but is present in the gigbag. Plastics are also in excellent condition and include the original trio of knobs and one-ply black pickguard, which displays some requisite scuffing along the pick path.
The high gloss Transparent Red finish is quite clean on top, with only a few minor marks around the base of the Floyd Rose and some small marks on the bass-side lower bout edge. There is light buckle rash on the back as well as a number of minor scratches and dings in the gloss. The gloss finish on the neck profile is clean and smooth.
The original Kramer-branded faux leather gigbag is included, along with the tremolo cavity cover.
