Randy Rhoads was electric in every sense of the word, and the Jackson Randy Rhoads guitar captures the essence of his lightning spirit. Rhoads’s signature blend of chops, classical taste, and explosive rock and roll joy enlivened every project he was a part of, from LA glam rockers Quiet Riot to his legendary stint in Ozzy Osbourne’s band. He sounded like a firecracker stashed in Paganini’s violin, and his playing elevated Ozzy’s early solo output to stratospheric heights. He passed away far too early, but his legacy lives on in the sound of thousands of teenage guitar fanatics attempting to play “Crazy Train.” After all, isn’t it the ultimate honor for a shredding guitar player to inspire an army of heavy metal acolytes?
Speaking of legacy, Rhoads’s Jackson guitar has quite a history! Before the plane crash that took his life, Rhoads was working with the wizards at Jackson to design the ultimate shred machine. After an arduous R&D process, Jackson was able to translate Rhoads’s vision and craft a mighty ax with a furious sound and an aesthetic unlike anything else on the market. Sadly, Rhoads never got to see his creation turn into a production model, but Jackson did him justice with this incredible Custom Shop Signature Model.
This Custom Shop incarnation of the Randy Rhoads Signature is a lean, mean machine that is sure to inspire countless nasty riffs and ripping solos. The magic starts with its set of Seymour Duncan pickups. In the bridge position, you’ll find a Seymour Duncan Trembucker—a pickup with the power to make you feel like a rockstar. Its upper-midrange snarl, tight bottom-end, and rich, touch-sensitive highs are the stuff of rock and roll fantasies, and its muscular tone is sure to send you off the rails on a crazy train of your own!
By contrast, the Seymour Duncan Jazz humbucker has a clear, smooth sound that belies this guitar’s surprising sensitive side. The lows are defined but beefy like a bodybuilder on competition day, and the trebles are as righteous and transparent as can be. There’s also a slight notch in the midrange, which helps it maintain crystalline clarity when you heap on the gain.
Shred-worthy sound like this necessitates a fast neck, and the Jackson Randy Rhoads Signature doesn’t disappoint in this regard, either. It has a slim profile and a 12″-16″ radius, which allows for easy chording low on the neck and easy bending up high. It also comes equipped with a real Floyd Rose for maximum stability, so you can dive bomb to your heart’s content!
