The Steve Vai Signature JEM has been a best seller for Ibanez and for us at Musician’s Friend since it first launched over 30 years ago. Now, Steve Vai and Ibanez have developed a new signature guitar as an evolution of that original design. Three years in development, the result is the Steve Vai Signature PIA (Paradise in Art).
Sculptured looks and a revised cutout
The PIA’s more rounded contours make it extra comfortable for you to play, and give the guitar a more refined look. The new “Petal Grip” takes the edge off the old “Monkey Grip,” and echoes Vai’s ongoing interest in balance, reflecting both a stylized version of the traditional Yin/Yang symbol and the petals of a blooming flower.

The rosewood fingerboard echoes the flower motif of the new grip with a beautiful inlay, featuring a multi-color, blossoming vine. With 24 jumbo stainless steel frets and Ibanez’ Prestige fret edge treatment the playing experience is not just blazingly fast, but smooth as satin.

Over multiple, rigorous sonic testing sessions, Vai tweaked the voicing of both the bridge and neck humbuckers and the middle single-coil pickup to precisely reflect the tone and response he was after. The final tonal touch is push/pull high-pass tone filter serves that greatly expands your tonal options. Intricately filigreed pickup covers bring a extra, sophisticated vibe to the guitar.
