1985 Ibanez GB10-NT George Benson Signature – Natural | Japan Archtop Hollowbody Jazz Guitar | OHSC

$ 2445.68

I am offering an Ibanez GB-10 NT from 1985, the legendary vintage hollowbody archtop George Benson signature model handcrafted in the Japanese FujiGen guitar factory with a handy 14.5” body (with a total weight of only 3.0kg!), arched spruce top, arched maple back and sides , set three-piece maple neck with 43mm wide brass/bone nut, two warm Ibanez GB Special humbucker pickups, bound ebony fingerboard with elaborate mother-of-pearl/abalone split block inlays incl. George Benson signature at the 21st fret, height-adjustable floating ebony bridge and custom GB10 gold tailpiece in an authentically aged Natural Blonde high-gloss finish with radiant gold hardware in excellent condition with original brown archtop hardshell case and professional setup with 12 D’Addario ECG25 flatwound strings.

Whether his nimble solo passages, warm lead sounds or the characteristic skat singing – who doesn’t know George Benson? He is one of the most famous jazz guitarists of the 21st century and, with his incredible virtuosity, is one of the best of all time. He has been making history with his music for almost half a century and, in addition to his imposing solo style and impressive playing technique, it is above all his Ibanez jazz hollowbody guitars that act as a figurehead for this exceptional talent.

The successful collaboration between Ibanez and George Benson began in 1977 when Ibanez, in close cooperation with GB, launched a signature model handmade in Japan that combined all the specifications that made George Benson famous – the birth of the GB10. The result is an absolute premium high-end model and one of the best that Ibanez has ever made – as evidenced by the fact that the guitar is still in production today.

This Jazz-Mama has a very light 14.5” hollowbody body with a spruce top and maple back and sides. With a body depth of 8.6cm (about as deep as a Gibson ES-175) and a width of 36.8cm, it is the perfect size for quick handling. The technical design of this archtop has been perfected: the top, like the back, is arched and resonates acoustically fantastically via the two hand-carved sound holes. A floating ebony bridge ensures clean intonation and a three-piece maple neck in set-neck construction fits perfectly, so that the sound is transmitted beautifully and great sustain is possible.

In terms of sound, two Ibanez GB Special humbuckers are at work, from which very versatile sound options can be elicited: from clean-singing blues sounds to crystal-clear rhythm passages to somewhat more dominant solo passages à la Joe Pass, they simply offer everything.

A sound example of the model (only from 1980 and in sunburst finish) can be found at the end of the photo gallery above.

The slim neck profile with a 43mm brass/bone hybrid nut together with the Venetian cutaway allows a playability that is second to none.

It is truly one of the most beautiful jazz guitars to be found today, combining high build quality, 120% vintage charm, top playability and great sound!
