Gretsch Viking 1967 project Sunburst

$ 1899.00

Link to video below is of this actual guitar in its current state.

I’m calling this a project because although it is playable, it will require some additional work to restore it to its original factory condition.

This guitar was purchased as a “husk” (no hardware/electronics) with the intention of doing a full restoration with period vintage and repo parts. The original guitar suffered from the typical binding rot so the body and neck were rebound (f holes and headstock binding remain original). As a result of the new binding job and the age of the original lacquer, many spots (particularly around the perimeter of the guitar) are missing the original lacquer. Some of it has been touched up with StewMac lacquer pens but there is more work to be done to completely restore the finish (see all pics). The new binding will need to be scraped flush with the surrounding wood. The red side dots on the fingerboard binding will need to be replaced (currently has red Sharpie). Some of the interior body bracing was shaved and the brace that originally held the mute assembly has been chipped out. (No replacement mute has been installed).

I’ve installed vintage replacement and repro parts as indicated below. Pickups are TV Jones. Other replacement hardware is authentic Gretsch repro.

To complete the restoration and return it to its factory state, it would require additional work/parts as indicated in this listing. The bridge saddle height from the bottom of the strings to the top of the guitar is measuring .875 (.75 would be a better neck angle). This may require a neck reset depending upon the player.

The wiring harness is from a vintage Gretsch but isn’t working properly and needs replacement capacitors for the tone switch (the tone switch is currently inactive). One volume pot seems to be reverse taper but all pots and other switches function so you CAN get neck, bridge or both pickups. Mute switch also works.

Additional condition notes: No cracks or breaks to neck or body. Some chips, dents, scratches, checking and missing lacquer. Minor fret wear. Most of the plating has worn off of the vintage tuners. Some oxidation on the repro Bigsby. Neck is straight. Truss rod works fine.
