This classy semi-hollow body guitar is a rare made in USA 1974 Gretsch Model 7690 “Super Chet” in the “Autumn Red” finish option. Gold plated hardware, fancy abalone fretboard-inlays and the 5 mini-controls on the pickguard made this guitar famous when introduced in 1973. A great sounding guitar with a slim maple neck which is very comfortable to play.
In very good condition with normal wear as would be expected for the age. No breaks or repairs. Fading to the gold hardware and some finish checking on the headstock. Back of the neck is worn slightly through the finish. No real binding rot which is pretty common with these. Someone did write their name in the sound hole back in ’76. All in all great condition.
It does seem to have had some electronic work as the original knobs and pots for the neck pickup are included. It doesn’t seem to quite have been wired right as there is still some volume coming through when turned down. But it does work correctly in the middle position and the master volume also works correctly. Minor issue that didn’t seem worth digging in to.
It also appears to have had a nut replacement and possibly the zero fret as well as those are in a bag of parts that are included in the sale.
Plays great. Freshly setup. Sounds great too. All around awesome vintage guitar at a great price!
