Selling my Gretsch Clipper. I believe it’s a 1963.
Original HiLoTron pickup and electronics. The bigsby was added by a previous owner. I purchased the guitar from a shop in Massachusetts.
Since I purchased it, I’ve had it refretted, and I had the bridge pinned for better intonation. The re-fret was just a year ago, and I have not played the guitar much since then, so the frets are still very new. I used this as a back up on stage mainly, and for occasional practice at home.
The guitar is in good condition, but definitely not perfect. The binding is complete, but you can see the typical yellowing, etc. in the photos. The neck is solid, and the truss rod works as it should. The bigsby works well, but as typical, the bigsby can pull the strings out of tune a little compared to other trem systems.
It will be well packaged and shipped in the hard shell case that it came with when I bought it, which is pictured. I’ve added some padding to the case, but it’s fairly rough. Lots of character.
I’ve enjoyed this Gretsch a lot, and the HiLoTron sounds great through a small tube amp. I was playing through a Supro Delta King 12, and it really has great vintage character, even just straight into the amp. The guitar is fairly light, and comfortable to wear for long periods, which was always a plus. It plays fairly easily, and the neck contours are really phenomenal. The neck plays like the best of the vintage Gibsons, in my opinion.
I’m selling this because I’m buying a different hollow body that goes with my gear a little better, and I need the money from this sale to buy it.
