A Beautiful example of an iconic, extremely nice, and rare Gibson ES-175D with Mahogany Back and Sides as opposed to the usual Maple Back and Sides. These ES-175D Mahogany Models were only produced briefly for a few years with minimum numbers back in the mid 80s when Gibson decided to revisit the Mahogany version that was popular many decades ago on ES-175 guitars. Even back then, very few were done in Mahogany. This is a rare piece indeed. The guitar was recently setup by a very well known professional luthier and therefore, the action and intonation are superb. Of course, with any instrument, set-up is subjective according to each players preference. What I deem as a perfect setup may not be YOUR perfect setup. Currently, the action is low and the guitar plays wonderfully for my taste. The tone is what you would expect from the world’s top selling jazz guitar. There is a reason why the ES-175D is so popular. However, keep in mind, these ES-175Ds are also highly sought after by guitarists of many genres, not just jazz. This one is just a true joy to play, not to mention, to just gaze at. What a beauty!
This guitar is about as close to mint as you can get. Includes the original hard shell case which shows typical wear that would be found on a 40 year old case that has been used. Although the outside of the case shows wear and tear, the inside of the case is pristine and therefore, the case does its job well. All latches and the handle are intact and function 100%. There are no case accessories such as tools, documents, warranty registration card, catalog, strap, strings, etc.. This listing includes the guitar and the case, nothing else. Exactly what is shown in the photos.
I was tempted to list this instrument as “Mint” condition. However, I opted to go with “Excellent” condition instead, due to the fact that I personally, don’t see how anyone can justify listing a pre-owned Vintage Guitar that has been played as “Mint”, unless perhaps it has been stored in a vacuum sealed vault since day one of leaving the factory. “Mint” means the instrument retains the same condition that it left the factory or maker in, upon completion. Therefore, “excellent” is the more appropriate description, regarding this ES-175D, in my humble opinion. There are a few signs of light use, but overall this guitar is super clean for a 40 year old vintage piece. Hardly any wear shows up in the photos other than some very small signs of use of which is commensurate with an instrument of this vintage. Speaking of photos, the included photos herein, serve as part of the description. Therefore, please view them closely. If you would like to see more photos of this guitar, don’t hesitate to let me know.
PLEASE NOTE: You will notice in some of the photos that the serial number on the back of the headstock has been sanitized with a yellow mark-thru. This was done to those photos for security purposes, due to hackers, scammers, and fraudsters that now spend their time frequently attempting their shenanigans here reverb.
Please ask any and all questions and as mentioned above, please view the photos very closely before making your purchase, due to the fact that this is a NO RETURN/NO REFUND AS IS SALE. Returns are just too costly, time consuming, and painful for all involved. To that end; once again, please be advised, along with this listing’s item description, the included photos also serve as part of the item(s) description. So please look over the photos closely and feel free to message me with any questions or concerns before making your purchase. If there is any particular area of the guitar that you would like photos of, just ask. I’m happy to oblige.
This rare and valuable guitar is also being offered as a local in person cash sale, as well as on other online selling platforms! Therefore, I reserve the right to end this listing at any time to facilitate a local sale of the items included, herein.
Once again, please don’t hesitate to ask any questions. I’m happy to help!
