Selling “Ferrari red” vintage 1985 Gibson SG Special. Have owned since 2006 and played extensively. Significantly modified from factory stock. Has Kahler vibrato bridge for whammy bar (whammy bar not included with sale) locking nut. Output jack location moved from front to side to add extra tone knob (4 knobs total). Pickups are humbuckers, and were either uncovered or changed from factory. Tuners and volume pots also changed. (The only one of these modifications made by me was replacing volume knobs, all others were already present at time of my purchase).
This guitar is in very good condition, it was my main guitar for more than a decade, I keep it well-maintained and I continue to play it regularly. The back of the neck is a bit faded, and may benefit from sanding. There is barely visible cracking to the red paint, I feel it adds character, depends on aesthetic preference, but it is strictly aesthetic, the wood is in excellent condition. There is a small chip in the top of the headstock. (All shown in accompanying photos.)
This guitar is incredibly playable, comfortable, and light. Have used for alternative rock, classic rock, pop, blues, and jazz, sounds outstanding for all. I personally think especially good for mid-to-high gain sounds, where the pickups have a wonderful crunch, but remain articulate. Also a wonderful, warm clean tone. The vibrato (AKA “tremolo) is a great feature, rare on an SG, awesome if you like dive-bombing. Also, I don’t think the “Ferrari red” color is in use anymore, so I think the look kind of screams 1980s.
I love this guitar, I am only selling it because my playing style has changed and I want a longer neck length and a hollow body, and don’t want the locking nut, plus want to be pushed out of my comfort zone playing. It’s an outstanding instrument, just not the right one for me anymore, and I hope to find it a home with someone who will savor the unique features I no longer need.
