A 2015 Les Paul Classic SR that has been slightly modified by the
late great Jim Mouradian. I received this directly from Gibson as I had a
prior different model guitar that developed a bow in the neck. This was
the replacement they sent me as they didn’t make my model in 2015.
In any event, this is a limited run of 250 of this particular
finish. Its a beautiful guitar and plays like a dream. The SR
(Sprint Run) has some of the new things (the best of) and some of the old
specs. The new things: A zero fret adjustable brass
nut. I was surprised at how much I love this option. Titanium bridge saddles.
I just stepped on the scale and it’s saying it’s 8.6 lbs but I’m
not buying it. Feels more towards 9.
It has a few finish dings (nothing on the front nor noticeable) and a few areas
where the finish has developed age spots again, not on front. The finish
is nitro. I have tried to photo the entire guitar with closeups of any finish dings or nitrocellulose scars. Some are not the best so if you want write me and I can attempt to get better shots. They’re all tiny.
Also the Sprint run comes with traditional Kluson tuners as opposed to that
auto tune monstrosity (epic fail on Gibsons part). The neck width is to
the prior years spec and body is old school non weight relief. This thing
has sustain for days.
NOW PLEASE UNDERSTAND…this guitar has been slightly modified for the better
in my opinion….the guitar originally came with a 3 knob configuration with
the circuit board guts and a ‘turbo boost’ preamp. Also it originally
came with a 57 classic in the neck and a 57 classic in the bridge
positions. All in all with this configuration the guitar sounded
awful. I had it adjusted about six times and could never get it to not be
harsh and abrasive sounding through every amp tried. The preamp was awful sounding and just made it worse. So I
had Jim Mouradian turn it into a traditional Les Paul. No original parts
are available as they’ve all been sold. Here’s what changed:
Circuit Board Removed and all electronics replaced with RS-Guitarworks 50’s
wiring guts with push pull’s on the tone controls for the coil cuts.
RS-Guitarworks makes just about the best componentry I’ve ever seen so this is
a huge plus. It went from Volume (push/pull), Volume (push/pull), Master
Tone and a micro switch for the preamp. TO: Volume, Volume, Tone
(push/pull), Tone (push/pull). A more traditional Les Paul Setup.
Much more intuitive for those of us who have been playing les pauls all our lives.
Of note: I had the push pulls moved to the tone controls as it simply
gets them out of the way. The original knobs actually cracked so I changed them out to good ol gibson speed knobs.
Pickup Changed out:
Neck: Dimarzio Anniversary PAF with coil cuts on the back tone control
Bridge: Dimarzio Super Distortion with coil cuts on the back tone control
The reason for this was simple….I tried 4 different pickup configs from
Seymour Duncan Seth Lover pickups, the original 57’s (they sounded harsh and
awful on this guitar), a set of gibson 490’s and finally the Dimarzios.
The Dimarzios sounded perfect on this axe. It sounds like a Les
Paul Should In my eyes. A mix between Jimmy Page/Joe Bonamassa and
Ace Frehley. You get a boat load of options also with the single coils by
mixing and matching with the cuts.
