The “ES-175” is a model that has carved its name into history as the standard of Gibson archtops. The 16-inch laminated maple body style is one of the standards for archtop guitars and is used as a guideline by all manufacturers. This instrument is a rare 1968 model with a rock-like taste, different from the classic 50s in both sound and looks. Numbered PAF, narrow neck with a nut width of about 40mm, double-ring and double-lined Kluson, sombrero knobs. This guitar has a cool appearance with an all-black finish that stands out beautifully against the chrome-plated parts. The unique compression that is often felt in single colors, the sharp graininess of each single note, and the airy feel of a dry woody tone. The moderate power typical of numbered PAFs of this period, combined with the bright and light output, make it perfect for a snappy style. This one probably has Rotomatic type pegs replaced. The peg diameter has been expanded to about 10 mm. It has now been returned to the original Kluson style using conversion bushings. (The original peg bushings are still in the case.) Also, at that time, the additional screw holes on the back of the head were filled, and black overspray was applied only to the back of the head from about the second fret on the back of the neck, but the color is well matched and the difference in color is almost invisible to the naked eye. There is weather checking, small paint chips, dents, etc. appropriate for age, but there is no damage that mars the appearance. The frets are wide and low, typical of this age. There is a feeling of use, but no noticeable wear. Please feel free to contact us for more details. This is an excellent item for jazz and blues, as well as rock and rockabilly. Please consider it.
