Up for sale, a 1997 Gibson Les Paul Custom in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. From an increasingly heralded era of Gibson production, this Les Paul makes the most of the classic combination of a solid, non-weight relieved mahogany body, carved maple top, and genuine ebony fretboard, delivering a bold, muscly acoustic voice with great articulation and warmth. Weighing 10lbs 3oz, this Les Paul has and impressive clarity, punch, and midrange presence. The original 490R and 498T humbuckers have a wide tonal palette, with Alnico II magnets in the neck pickup yielding more chime and warmth, while the Alnico V bridge pickup is tailored for gain with plenty of output and roar. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar and strung with 10-46 strings, this Les Paul is everything a top-tier Gibson model was designed to be.
The one-piece mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with more meat and shoulder at the nut than a typical “60s” shape, offering more overall heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .835” deep at the 1st fret and .999″ at the 12th. The ebony fretboard sports pearl block inlay and practically perfect original frets which have well-rounded crowns, just shy of medium jumbo. The neck is straight, the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted, and the guitar plays easily in every register up the 24 3/4″ scale. The nut measures 1 11/16″ in width, and the headstock has all the classic appointments of a Les Paul Custom, with multi-ply binding, split diamond pearl inlay, and “Custom” truss rod cover. The original Grover Rotomatic tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
All of the electronics work as they should, with a pair of stock Gibson 490R and 498T humbuckers wired to the original harness with untouched solder joints and Gibson-embossed Alpha pots. The hardware includes the Nashville bridge and stopbar, and the gold plating is bright and clean with just a speckling of surface patina. Plastics include a quartet of black speed knobs, the multi-ply pickguard, and switch surround and tip. The gloss Alpine White nitro lacquer finish is virtually unaged and bright white on the body, with gentle yellowing of the clear coat on the neck profile. There’s barely a scratch on the body, and the gloss on the neck profile is flawless.
The original brown tolex Gibson USA hardshell case with pink plush interior is included.
