Original 1970 Gibson SG Special with P90s, ‘Batwing’ pickguard and Mahogany body in classic cherry red that has faded to a beautiful aged brown.
One piece mahogany neck with binding, skinny post-1965 nut with very deep D-shape profile (relatively fat feeling that does not taper much), gorgeous Indian rosewood fingerboard & non-factory Grover tuners.
This guitar features post June 1969 volute, squared asymmetrical horns (typical of 1970s Gibsons), no dot over the ‘i’ inlay & non-original nut.
6-digit serial number stamp beginning with 9 usually denotes a possible build year of 1968 however all original electronics demonstrate a build year of 1970.
Guitar has seen refret with jumbo frets however this seems to have taken place long ago.
Significant wear & checking on body as well as peeling on the finish of the neck that does not interfere with playing too much. Some very slight separation at neck join too however seems very stable.
Neck pickup volume knobs have been replaced with Fender amp knobs & original poker-chip and switch tip are missing. Bridge has been replaced with non original lightning bolt wraparound however still looks the part.
Includes non original hard shell case and original short Lyre Vibrola in case.
