The ES-125 remains the most economical way to get a vintage Gibson electric archtop guitar. If you don’t need a cutaway, you can get a guitar that has the great tone of a P90 ES-175 for about half the price. These vintage 1950s P90s are all over the top recordings of the era, used by many of the jazz greats, like Jim Hall and Herb Ellis.
This one appears in all original condition, except for the replacement Kluson Deluxe tuners that are currently on the guitar (the functional original matching tuners are included). The frets appear to be original skinnier frets typical of the era. They show wear, but have quite a bit of life left in them. The guitar plays very smoothly with nice action. The neck has a comfortable, shallow U-shape.
The electronics work well, and the P90 pickup has all of the great, classic tone expected.
The finish is in good condition, showing the expected checking for a guitar of this era. There are a few spots where the finish is worn through on the sides, as shown. There is also a spot of missing finish near the back of the headstock, likely from reaction with a stand.
Weight – 5.9 pounds
Nut width – 1.68 inches
1st fret depth – 0.93 inches
10th fret depth – 1.05 inches
Scale length – 24.75 inches
The guitar comes with the original hard shell case. All of the latches and hinges work, but the outside is very worn with much of the fabric covering gone off of the back. The liner is in good condition.
