For Sale: 1966 Fender Mustang White in very good condition.
This guitar was purchased used in 1990. I was on tour with my band (UKJ) and during the X-mas break and I wanted to get a backup guitar that was completely different than my modified Charvel No. 2 guitar. I was getting a little tired of the Floyd Rose Tremelo and wanted a solid body like a Les Paul. But they were hard to find and expensive for my budget at the time. I found this guitar in a used music shop in San Diego. The owner told me that it was a 1965 mustang. I enjoyed the guitar and actually did use it a few times out on tour. I quickly realized that I wanted a slightly fatter sound and wanted the redo the neck with medium frets. The original fender frets were really small and had some dead spots.
My guitar tech replaced the pick-ups with Seymour Duncan’s and found out the guitar was really a 1966 Mustang and the bridge pickup was dated as 6-7-67 and the neck pickup looked like something from the 60’s, but no date was on the back, just some stamp with red numbers (please see pictures). The fret job came out great and loved playing this guitar on tour and used on countless demos. This is a guitar meant for players and the pickups have an incredible twang! Plug it in to a nice tube amp and you can really dig out some tasty bell like tones like Stevie Ray Vaughn! (Fun Fact) I loved the sound so much, I actually used it when I auditioned for the RHCP back in the day, right before they picked Dave Navarro.
Please note: This is most likely not a collectors guitar! I can’t confirm it has all the original parts, but can confirm that all the parts are the same as I purchased it back in 1990. The slide switches work, but get scratchy at times and you may need to toggle them 1 or 2 times to change the pickups. I always just left the back pickup on and left the neck pickup off. This also is not the original guitar case, the shop owner threw it in for free cause no one was purchasing small scale guitars back in the early 90’s!
