Fender American Standard Stratocaster 50th MN BSB (Brown Sunburst) 1996
The American Standard series has been sold for the longest period of time in Fender’s regular lineup and is still popular today. Although it has been replaced by its successor, the American Professional, it is still popular with many players.
This example was manufactured and comes in a classic brown sunburst finish. Since it was a commemorative year, there is a plate with the word 50th on the back of the head. Other than the plate, there are no noticeable differences from the regular model.
This model is designed for modern players, with the classic combination of an alder body, a maple neck with overhang, maple fingerboard, 22 medium jumbo frets, and a two-point tremolo with block saddles. Controls include a master volume, front tone, center and rear TBX tone, and a 5-way selector switch. The “TBX” control, which is often installed on American Standards from this period, is a control that became famous for being installed on Eric Clapton models. The center click position is a full up of the normal tone, and 0 from the center is a high cut, and 10 is a filter-like control that cuts low. It is possible to emphasize the high range beyond the normal tone, allowing for a wide range of sonic possibility.
The pickups are Fender’s original passive pickups from this period, and the electrical system and all other hardware appears to be original.
American Standards with a history of over 30 years often have capabilities that surpass current models, and this piece exemplifies why it is loved by various players. It is a classic model that you will not be dissatisfied with when playing, and is highly recommended.
