Up for sale, a 2012 Fender American Standard HSS Stratocaster in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order; complete with the original hardshell case, hangtags, and case candy. While Fender’s American Standard platform is ubiquitous, this particular HSS model is particularly uncommon, especially with its custom color Mystic Red gloss finish. A high quality reinvention of the Stratocaster platform for the modern age, the American Standard line is built on a traditional platform with a host of modern, player-friendly features including a satin neck profile finish, 9 1/2” fretboard radius, medium jumbo fretwire, two-point tremolo, Schaller-built tuning machines, and an HSS array of Fender Custom Shop pickups.
Tonewoods include an alder body, maple neck, and 22 fret slab rosewood fretboard, providing a balanced, smooth acoustic profile that allows the pickup complement to really shine. The single coils in the neck and middle positions are a pair of Custom Shop Fat 50s; slightly overwound single coils with bright, pristine highs and a tight low end presence for maximum articulation. The bridge pickup is a Custom Shop Diamondback humbucker, a punchy and powerful pup with a full midrange and crisp, articulate response, metering at 8.2k ohms. Weighing 7lbs 12oz, this Strat has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, low action and spot-on intonation.
The satin-finished maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders, measuring .830” deep at the 1st fret and .900” at the 12th. The thick slab 22 fret rosewood fretboard has a 9 1/2” radius with lightly rolled edges and the stock medium jumbo fretwire. The frets retain their full factory height and well-rounded crowns, with only very light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-9. The scale length is 25 1/2”, and the nut measures 1 11/16” in width. On the headstock, the Schaller-built, Fender-branded tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch and the US12-prefix serial dates to 2012.
On the body, all the original electronics function as intended with the standard Strat control configuration, untouched solder joints, and full-size CTS pots dated to June, 2012. The underside of the guard retains the factory shielding and has a factory inspection sticker dated to November 27th, 2012. The chrome-plated hardware is near-mint, and the two-point tremolo system has a very smooth and responsive feel. Plastics include the original trio of knobs and three-ply white pickguard.
The gloss Mystic Red finish is rich and vibrant, virtually indistinguishable from Fender’s classic custom color Candy Apple Red. Cosmetic wear is limited to a small area of faint, localized buckle rash central to the upper bout on the back and a scant few minuscule finish scratches and dings in the clear coat on the body. The satin finish on the neck profile is immaculate.
The original Fender-branded molded hardshell case is included, along with the original hangtags and case candy. The guitar was originally sold via Fender’s Japanese distributor Yamano, and some of the paperwork is in Japanese.
