1983-84 Fender TC-72 Telecaster Custom ’72Reissue MIJ SQ Serial

$ 1128.00

A rare “SQ” serial Fender Japan Telecaster Custom has arrived, representing one of the earliest examples of the “Made in Japan” era after the JV series. This Telecaster Custom features an ash body and a one-piece maple neck, equipped with a Wide Range humbucker at the neck and a traditional Tele single coil at the bridge. This setup allows the guitar to produce a broad spectrum of sounds, from thick, rich humbucker tones at the neck to crisp, chime-like single-coil snaps at the bridge. The middle position combines the best of both, balancing output and tonal characteristics of both pickups.

The guitar weighs 7 pounds 8 ounces and offers good sustain and a crisp, articulate acoustic tone through the pickups. The one-piece maple neck has a medium C-shape profile, comfortable shoulders, and lightly rolled fretboard edges. It features a vintage-spec 7.25-inch radius and nearly perfect frets that allow for clean playing across the 25.5-inch scale length. The original bone nut measures 1.650 inches (42 mm).

The headstock is equipped with a block logo, bullet truss rod nut, and Kluson-style tuning machines that maintain precise pitch. The three-bolt neck plate is stamped with “Made in Japan” and the SQ prefix serial number.

The body shows many signs of wear, and there are some paint chips on the fretboard, though these do not significantly affect playability. The neck is straight, with about 50-60% of fret life remaining. This vintage Telecaster is ready to play and a great find for collectors or players looking for a distinctive piece with historical significance.
