I have a nice 2017 ESP E-II M1 guitar here. This one comes with it’s hardshell case.
This ESP is in very good condition. Upon scrutiny of it i see minimal signs of use on the body of any kind.
There are no dings, or buckle rash, i see a tiny little bit of glossing and minimal superficial swirling. The body looks excellent front, back and edges.
The frets have no fretwear and plays outstanding. I have equipped with medium gauge strings and for that reason it is down tuned to D sharp. 1/2 step down from standard E. If you decide to go back to light gauge strings there would be little to no adjustments needed because the string tension is roughly the same if you tune 10-46 string to standard E.
There is one issue that makes me rate this as VG rather than excellent. There is some clouding in the finish at the edges of the frets. This happens when the fretboard expands and retracts from moisture andd then lack of moisture. So the fret edges at some point will push against the finish and make a little light spot. If you intentionally run your finger up and down the edge of the frets you can feel some degree of fret edge. It is not something i notice when playing or anything that feels uncomfortable or sharp when playing. This is pretty common on fretboards and no big deal.
One other minor thing is the nut is the stock bone nut. It was not repaired or changed. It shows a little excess glue along the top edge from how it was set in the factory. It is solid, no issues, and cut perfectly. It just has slight bulge of excess glue which is under the satin finish and feels perfectly smooth. No biggie there, i just wanted to point it out.
So this one i will rate a 8.8/10 and grade as very good. Cosmetically the guitar body is clean and excellent. As noted there is some fret edge that created some light spots in the finish in that area. The guitar performs excellent sonically and structurally setup wise.
This guitar is a simplistic masterpiece and excels equally for rhythm and lead. It has a 3 piece maple neck topped with an ebony fretboard both of these are high clarity woods, and our body wood is a “warm” wood being alder. This is a great combo that is often used on superstrat style guitars.
Now the single pickup and volume knob. Some people may think that is just a cheaper model lacking a neck pickup. But there is actually purpose and benefit to this layout.
Pickups have a magnetic pull on the strings. So while one thinks of your pickups as having output, but the magnet actually pulls on your strings while you are playing and speeds up the loss of sustain. Essentially the pull dampers how long your strings wring and vibrate for. PAF low powered magnetic pickups are regarded for their natural sustain for this reason. So the lack of a neck pickup enhances the sustain of the bridge pickup and reduces the magnetic pull on the strings. Likewise i believe their is a subtle improvement in resonance because instead of having a routed out hole with plastic on top of there, you have a solid resonating wood body.
The single volume knob, again is regarded as a less is more factor. It’s a more direct from the pickup to the guitar route. Overall these three factors are not dramatic. But they are subtle enhancements specifically tailored by purpose .
Single pickup guitars were very popular in the 1980’s during the shred era. They have still have a niche but devout following today among players in the know. So overall this is a great bang for the buck guitar. It’s a professional level hard rock metal guitar. A great alternative to a new ESP LTD model to as those are creeping up in price point over the years as well.
NOTE that currently Sales Tax will be charged in most states and Reverb has opted to cancel the External website that allowed for Tax free checkout. This was very popular and is missed. To those inquiring about any Tax free options. Because of this i am selling on other platforms and social media without Tax. But i cannot steer and guide you to them out of respect and compliance to Reverb. If you want a guitar on Reverb you have most likely will pay state sales tax so factor that into your purchase.
This guitar will be carefully packed, with sufficient filler and bracing in the shipping box and if needed a little in the case. I will detune the strings about one half a step prior to shipment. Another step i take is i will denote for it to be shipped “standing” with arrows drawn on the outer box and it will be marked fragile as well. It will be meticulously packed.
Thank you for reading and considering!
