This is a 2001 Custom Ordered MX2 from the ESP Custom Shop in Japan. This is an example of ESP’s highest quality craftsmanship as this was made in the same factory (Takada) that makes their custom Artist guitars. Very few neck-thru MXs come with a Maple/Rosewood (was told Brazilian) combination. This is not the fairly mass-produced MXs that come out of the Kiso shop. As great as those are, and I’ve owned a bunch, this is the best of the best.
Year: 2001
Construction: Neck-thru
Body: Honduras Mahogany
Neck: Maple
Fingerboard: Rosewood (was told Brazilian by the person in Japan I purchased from)
Inlays & Logo: Real Mother of Pearl (Not decals)
Tuners: Non-factory Ratio
Pickups: EMG81/EMG60
The body is made of Honduras Mahogany, and was ordered to be 3mm thicker than normal MXs. The Rosewood is the smoothest, tightest grained example I’ve ever played.
Ships in a fitted ESP hardshell case and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Evidently ESP is no longer making MXs. Not even for Japan distribution.
Condition is excellent, but being a black guitar does show some minor scratches and swirls. No paint gouges.
