Where are all our Uncle Larry Homeskoolers at?!
No, this isn’t Tom Bukovac’s old flood survivor Dean Cadi he sold awhile back; However, we were surprised to learn he shared the same admiration for the old vintage Dean designs as we do.
We wanted to finally put together an ideal Cadillac after seeing Bukovac play a vintage beat-up one on his Homeskoolin’ show. While the vintage Deans are surely worth their price of admission, that just wasn’t in the cards. However, our result is surely no slouch.
Up for sale is a 2012 Korean-made Dean Cadi ‘1980’ Model, with original hardshell Dean Guitars branded case.
The ‘1980’ model is now discontinued, but was a top-of-line import model for Dean. The 2012 era import guitars are generally considered to be far better instruments than the current import line Dean offers, being made in China.
The guitar features a set of Seymour Duncan Slash Alnico II PAF-style humbuckers, with Zebra bobbins. They brought this guitar to the next level and gave it a truly authentic vintage Dean look, as this exact color and pickup bobbin color was a known vintage Dean example owned by Craig ‘Starship’ Chaquico. The guitar now has singing overtones and harmonics and is a joy to throw some gain on.
The electronics were upgraded with full size CTS pots and genuine Orange Drop capacitors. The tuners were upgraded to gold Grover locking tuners.
All in all, this example delivers the high performance sound and feel you’d expect from a vintage Dean, at a fraction of the cost.
It is set up phenomenally with 46-9’s and is a very unique package visually when it comes to Cadillacs.
