Carvin’s name holds quite the reputation these days. Some are reminded of furry speaker cabs, cargo shorts, and tall white socks, while others see some of the best guitars money could buy for 5 straight decades. Carvin was not messing around with these deliberately spec’d out, boutique quality guitars and sold them at a fraction of the price of many competitors. How you may ask? That’s Carvin’s secret.
This one-owner axe has been lovingly played, but the finish has held up well. The frets are about 50% of their original height, so it plays fast and lean! Most specs are familiar for LP fans, however the all Maple design allows for cut and chime that you simply can’t find with Mahogany and Rosewood! The coil-taps feel musical and not useless, the phase switch doesn’t go unappreciated to those of us who occasionally like it quacky, and the full sound of the stock humbuckers will please classic rock, jazz, and metal fans. This guitar is a beast! And no matter what style of music you intend to use it for, it’s hard to find a spot where it won’t fit in.
There will come a day where people assign appropriate value for these guitars, but for now; take advantage! This is hands down one of the best sounding and feeling guitars you can get in this price range- especially entering the world of vintage guitars.
