Martin D-45S 12 Fret EIR Gruhn Custom 2022 – Sunburst

$ 4950.00

Last year I bought ten new Martin guitars to add to my collection of over 30 Martins – blame it on CoVid!  But with my last birthday at 69 (how’d that happen?) and entering the 4th quarter, I gotta start to find new homes for some of these!

This Custom Shop Martin, a collaborative design by Martin and Vintage Guitar expert, George Gruhn, is one of the best I’ve owned, both in terms of tone and playability.  A 12-fret Sunburst, it is one of only six in the world produced by Martin for Gruhn Guitars in 2022.  All six sold out from Gruhn within one week.

The guitar features a sunburst Adirondack spruce top with pre-war forward shifted scalloped bracing and HD-28-style herringbone body ornamentation.  The slotted headstock features a D-45-style pearl inlay torch with open-back Grover tuners.  The mahogany neck is designed with an adjustable truss rod and snowflake/split diamond inlays on the fretboard. The full-sized C-shape neck has 1-¾” nut width with 2-5/16” string spacing.  The back and sides are made of beautiful East Indian Rosewood.

The tone of these12-fret dreadnoughts is probably better than most of the 14-frets I own – except maybe my D-45 & D-42 – but it’s pretty damn close.  The whole guitar seems to resonate more and the tone is sweeter and deeper overall than most of my Martins. This is an incredible guitar in mint condition.

So it’s just downsizing time – before the wife has me committed!  🙂 More to come… one at a time. Ugh! Painful!

Ships in original packaging with original hardshell case.

If you don’t know George… you should.  He knows how to design Vintage worthy guitars like this one.

”Since 1963, George Gruhn has distinguished himself as the one to see in Music City – or anywhere for that matter – if you’re in the market for a vintage stringed instrument . . . He categorizes his interest in guitars – like that of his staff and most of his clientele – as beyond obsession. ‘Those with a serious interest have an addiction, and we’ve got the goods,’ Gruhn says of his customers, who include the heavyweights of popular music – Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, Lyle Lovett, Vince Gill, George Harrison, and Paul McCartney, just to name a handful.” – Bone Magazine

“George Gruhn knows more about vintage guitars than anyone on earth.” – Guitar Player editor Tom Wheeler
