“Made before the war! Original Hawaiian setup 0-18K!”
Made in 1928. One of the Hawaiian guitar steel guitars Martin produced for the unprecedented Hawaiian boom. Although it has a round neck, it has a tall nut and flush frets. After the steel guitar was replaced by the electric guitar, many of the guitars were converted to the Spanish style, but this guitar maintains the original Hawaiian style. Hawaiian Koa is used for the body, and the top and back have a relatively clear tiger heather for Style 18. There are dents, scratches, weather checks, deterioration of the paint film, yellowing of the pegs, and rust on the metal parts, but considering the model year, it can be said that the appearance is sufficiently clean. The neck is curved and the top is bulging, but it does not interfere with Hawaiian-style playing at all, and can be said to be the average condition of existing pre-war Hawaiian guitars.
The sound is wonderful, with the vintage-like dead resonance and the sweet, melt-in-your-mouth tone unique to acoustic Hawaiian guitars. The tone is similar to that of Hawaiian guitars with a Weizenborn-type hollow neck structure, but perhaps because of the round neck, this one has a richer sustain and sound coherence. You will want to play forever. The grain of the core is also beautiful, and it is a recommended gem that you can enjoy the joy of holding.
With the recent resurgence in popularity of acoustic steel guitars, this individual can be said to be a valuable piece.
