The well-known Gibson acoustic’s representative model, the J-45.
A historic reissue model that reproduces the specifications of the first year, 1942,
has been released by the famous Murphy Lab.
Tom Murphy was a founding member of the Gibson Electric Custom Shop and worked hard as the project leader for the development of the Historic Collection.
Tom has brought the look and feel of vintage guitars to new guitars with his aging techniques,
and his skills, backed by his passion for vintage guitars and his deep knowledge, have produced a number of hit aged models.
Until now, Murphy Lab Aged has only been applied to electric guitars, and acoustic guitars have never been produced, but now the long-awaited Murphy Aged Acoustic Guitar has finally been born.
This series uses a special Murphy lacquer that is different from the normal model to reproduce the oxidized (aged) state of vintage guitars.
Murphy lacquer is thinner and harder than normal lacquer, so that the paint naturally weathers, and unlike weather checking artificially applied with a cutter, it has a look that is closer to real vintage.
It also reproduces scratches and small dents that give a vintage guitar its “flavor”.
At first glance, it doesn’t look like a new guitar, but rather like a superb vintage guitar that has been played and handled carefully since it was made in 1942, and has made its way through the years.
I would like to talk at length about the attention to detail in the look, but the biggest selling point of Murphy Lab Acoustic is its “sound”.
It’s completely different from the sound of the regular J-45 line.
It has a powerful sound that is close to that of a vintage Gibson.
Since it’s a brand new guitar,
you can expect it to develop as you play it.
The hard, thin coating finished with a special Murphy lacquer
makes the body of the guitar vibrate obediently in response to the vibration of the strings,
amplifying the sound to an amazing degree.
The responsiveness is clearly different from other guitars,
not only can you feel the vibration of the body and neck while playing,
but even when you turn the pegs to tune,
you can feel the vibration from the peg buttons to your fingertips.
This guitar will make your “soul” tremble just by playing a simple chord.
The top and thermally aged Adirondack red spruce are used,
and the sides and back are made of mahogany.
In addition, Adirondack red spruce is used for the bracing to reproduce a robust sound.
You can fully enjoy the vintage-like earthy Gibson sound.
The neck is about 43.8 mm wide and has a thick historic profile.
Although the neck is thick, it is much thinner than the baseball bat neck used in 1942, making it easier to grip and meeting modern needs.
