Up for sale, a 1993 Martin M-64 in near-mint, crack-free condition, complete with the original hardshell case, factory paperwork and bill of sale. A relatively rare Martin model produced from 1985-95, the M-64 has a 0000-size body, wide like a jumbo yet slender in depth like a 000, with a tonewood complement comprising a scalloped X-braced Sitka spruce top, bookmatched flame maple back and sides, and a mahogany neck capped with an ebony fingerboard.
There’s plenty of power and projection on tap, and the combination of the unique body dimensions and maple back and rims ensure a markedly bright, punchy tonal profile set apart from the vast majority of Martins. The full 25.4″ scale length (akin to a dreadnought or OM) ensures ideal string tension on the top, yielding ample sonic authority. The low end is more tailored than a dreadnought while still offering plenty of warmth and breadth, the trebles are equal parts smooth and sparkling, and there’s a nice midrange cut and growl when digging in with a flatpick. This M-64 weighs 4lbs, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action.
The mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with modest shoulders, bordering on a very soft V-shape, measuring .835” deep at the 1st fret and .900” at the 9th. On the ebony fingerboard, the slender fretwire only exhibits a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-3. This guitar plays cleanly in all registers with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. This M-64 has Martin’s traditional long scale at 25.4”, and the bone nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The headstock sports a rosewood veneer with a flawless Martin logo, and the upgraded set of Grover Sta-Tite open-gear tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with flawless nickel plating and an 18:1 ratio. The original Martin-branded tuning machines are present in the case.
The neck has been professional reset, meeting the body at an angle that ensures decades of future viability. The rosewood bridge sits flush with the top on all edges, with a new compensated bone saddle that has ample height. The top and back are framed by multi-ply tortoise binding, matching the original red tortoise pickguard.
The gloss nitro lacquer finish highlights the tight flame figuring which extends evenly across the bookmatched maple back and rims. This guitar is exceptionally well-kept, with just a couple minor finish scratches on the body as a whole. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile is immaculate.
The original Martin-branded molded hardshell case is included, along with the original bill of sale and factory paperwork.
