2007 Fender Mary Kaye 50th Anniversary Stratocaster / 1957-2007
For your consideration, a great playing and sounding Stratocaster. Hand picked from the Fender Factory for its great action and presence. This beauty has been played but not hard. Does have some small scratches and a small finish chip in the lower neck body joint pockets seen in the picture. Comes with ash tray, trim bar, 5 way switch and other related case candy.
The action is nice and low without buzzing. Everything works as it should. I am the second owner and bought this in Corona from the guy that hand picked this beauty. I have owned 5 of these models and this is the best one yet. You will not be disappointed. I am only selling to fund another project. Info below for historical sake.
Mary Kaye was a popular entertainer in the 1950s and was known as the “First Lady of Rock and Roll” for her guitar-driven, calypso-tinged, swing music, Kaye was a musical innovator who helped pioneer Vegas lounge music. Although, one of the most surprising aspects of the story of the “Mary Kaye” Strat, is that Kaye never really owned, and rarely played, the guitar that informally bears her name.
So just why is the distinctive ash blonde Strat with the gold hardware known as the “Mary Kaye” Stratocaster?
The answer lies in a 1956 Fender promotional photo of Kaye and her Mary Kaye Trio bandmates, Frank Ross and Norman Kaye. In the photo, which was shot between sets at the band’s Vegas lounge residency. Kaye can be seen brandishing the distinct white blonde Strat that she would become forever associated with. But the guitar didn’t belong to her. At the time, she actually favored custom D’Angelicos.
This 2007 Fender Stratocaster 50th Anniversary ’57 Mary Kay Reissue is a thoughtful homage to the guitar that was so prominently featured in Fenders advertising. It features a translucent white finish over an ash body and rose gold hardware. The soft “V” neck profile sports a 7.25″ radius maple fretboard with 21 vintage frets and 25.5″ scale length.
This model has a special 50th Anniversary 4-bolt neck plate!
