Up for sale, a 1997 Ibanez Pat Metheny Signature PM100 archtop in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order with all hangtags, COA and the original hardshell case. The original signature model for Jazz guitarist and composer Pat Metheny, the PM100 has a body shape evocative of Gibson’s Barney Kessel and Tal Farlow models, featuring all maple body construction and a one-piece mahogany neck capped with a 22 fret ebony fingerboard.
Featherweight at 6lbs 15oz, this Ibanez has a smooth, airy acoustic tone, with the immediacy and glassy attack of the maple and ebony tonewoods. The single neck position Super 58 alnico magnet humbucker is ideal for complex chording and sweet, singing lead work, all with exquisite clarity. We’ve had this Pat Metheny model professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, easy-playing action and accurate intonation.
The one-piece mahogany neck has a “PM Prestige” neck profile carve, a slender C-shape with notable shoulder in every register (bordering on a D-shaped carve), measuring .820″ deep at the 1st fret and .940″ at the 12th. The bound ebony fretboard has pearloid block inlay bisected by abalone parallelograms, and the medium jumbo fretwire is flawless. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4″ scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut is carved from bone for optimal clarity and sustain, measuring 1 11/16″ (43mm) in width. The headstock features the Ibanez logo, lightning bolt-style inlay, and gold Gotoh tuning machines that turn very smoothly. The F96 serial number notes manufacture at the Fujigen factory in 1996 (the COA conclusively dates the instrument to 3/21/97).
The simple electronics function as intended, with Volume and Tone controls capped with Ibanez’s Sure Grip II knobs. The gold plating on the hardware is gleaming, save for light patina on the tailpiece hinge. The model label is visible through the F hole, signed by Pat Metheny. The Black gloss finish is framed by lightly ambered binding, and cosmetic wear is limited to just a few faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.
All original hangtags and factory paperwork is included, along with the COA and brown tolex hardshell case.
