From the Original Roman Guitars website listing:
When the Beatles started to get famous in the early 60s, George bought a 1962 Chet Atkins “Country Gentleman” Gretsch guitar. George can be seen using this one more often than anything else on stage. There were many attempts at reissuing the Country Gentleman as George played it and finally Gretsch has got it totally right. The Gretsch logo on the plexi pickguard is the only marking with two Filter-trons, Grover Imperials and even the dual mutes complete the recreation. The “Brittish Gentleman” Jet black version commemorates George Harrison’s re-finished guitar following the Beatles performance on the Ed Sullivan show. George liked the ‘black’ color after seeing watching the performance on a black & white TV . Originally Gretsch affectionately dubbed the guitar the ” Ed Sullivan tribute model”, but is now simply referred to as the “British Gentleman”.   Gretsch issued these guitars in very limited quantities 40 years to the month after the Beatles appearance in February of 1964. This guitar is Gretsch’s exact reproduction of the Original George Harrison Black Country Gentleman. George’s original ebony Country Gentleman suffered damage beyond repair in 1965 when it fell of out of the Beatles van and was crushed by a lorry. Special Hard Shell Case Included.
