2022 Gibson Custom Shop Archive Collection Theodore Natural VOS Limited Edition From Japan Killer

$ 4999.00

It’s no
secret that Gibson always sends their best guitars to Japan and this one a
perfect example of it and it just landed today. I handpicked this one from many
and it plays and sustains like crazy! If you want a Theodore this is the one
trust me. I just love the double shark fin cutaway.

Just imagine
that you are able to buy a guitar today that was designed by Ted McCarty during
the same era as the Flying V and Explorer. It makes one think that what if
their roles were reversed and it was the Theodore that was built back in 1958
and the Flying V was not built until today? If the Flying V didn’t exist and
you never saw one before today for the first time would you buy one? Heck yea
you would!

It’s an
incredible concept that you can actually buy an original 1958 Ted McCarty
designed guitar today from the same era as the original Flying V and Explorer.
To me it gives the vibe that you are buying an original 1958 vintage guitar to
some degree but with better build technology with its wrap tail piece, P-90 screaming pickups, long neck tenon, and the
outrageous double shark fin cut away design.

Buried deep
in the Gibson archives and recently discovered this guitar came to life from
Ted McCarty’s original drawings and is now part of the Gibson Archive Collection.
Ted signed the drawing 3-18-58 so Gibson decided they would build only 318
guitars of each color in cherry, ebony, and natural. I have had all 3 colors
and to me the blonde finish really looks the best. The hockey stick headstock
combined with the screaming P-90 pickups and wrap tail piece produce an
incredible vintage tone unlike anything you ever heard before and the double
shark fin cut away is cool as all get out.

This guitar
is in as brand new condition with no cosmetic defects what so ever. It was
carefully taken out of its original box for photos and then carefully put back
in its box. It included all hang tags, COA, Ted’s original drawings, strap,
case key, Gibson gold warranty card, and the Japanese warranty card.

The following is taken
from the Gibson web site:

page print, and a deluxe Certificate of Authenticity booklet.

Gibson’s legendary former president Theodore ‘Ted’ McCarty helped develop some
of the most iconic electric guitars ever during the 1950s and early 1960s,
including the Les Paul™, ES-335, Flying V™, Explorer™, SG™, and Firebird™
models. He enjoyed sketching new instrument ideas during meetings, and the
height of his creative output was in 1957 when he sought to modernize Gibson’s
electric guitar designs significantly.

On March 18th, 1957, Ted detailed and
signed his drawing for a new solid body instrument which was never
produced…until now. Gibson Custom Shop is proud to present the “Theodore,”
inspired by Ted McCarty’s original drawing and notes. Its unique features
include an alder body, scimitar headstock, double Florentine cutaways, and a
walnut center strip. The lightweight, balanced construction is extremely
comfortable, and the powerful P-90 pickups produce effortless sustain and a
rich diversity of tones.
