Fernandes GC-50 Handmade Classical Guitar Brazilian Rosewood 1974

$ 1099.00

Absolutely spectacular handmade vintage classical guitar from Japan! I have had a GC-35 and this one is a step above as expected from the model number. It features a solid spruce top and stunning laminated Brazilian rosewood back and sides as well as a BR headstock overlay. No Export! Plays and sounds fantastic!

This is a very special guitar, hand made by master luthier Kazuo Toshi (aka Kazuo Ichiyanagi). He is known for the process he invented which treated the wood with formaldehyde in order to improve its resonance, it became known as “Superwood”. He made these guitars for a couple of years under the Fernandes label before starting his own shop. You can buy his hand made guitars now and they range from $2000-$5000! This guitar cost 50,000 yen in 1974 or about 9 months salary for a Japanese college graduate.

The guitar is in great condition overall with no notable issues. Frets have been polished and new strings installed.
