1950 Epiphone Zenith Archtop w/ Pickup & Case

$ 2195.00

Up for sale is a beautiful New York made 1950 Epiphone Zenith Archtop in VG condition and perfect working order. We just gave it a pro set up with 11-49 gauge strings so it plays amazingly with a straight neck, low action and the vintage Electromuse Eye-Beam pickup sounds wonderful!

Cosmetically, this instrument is very clean for its age and has been well taken care of over the years. That said, there’s some general cosmetic wear such as: tiny dings scattered around, swirl marks, chips, finish checking and light scratches. There is one well repaired (cleated on the inside) crack on the top that starts at the bottom of the bass side F-Hole and extends south to the end of the top. There’s also a small area of binding separation on the back which is on the treble side between the lower and upper bouts.

The original frets look good still with some general and mild wear on frets 1-7. It could benefit from a fret dress. It doesn’t appear to ever have had one done before. We can’t be certain of this but that’s what it looks like. There’s also some mild fingerboard wear on the lower frets. It appears to have seen a lot of play in the “cowboy chord” area. Overall, this is an extremely solid example and one of the cleanest we’ve seen.

The neck set looks great still and is original. The adjustable bridge is basically down as low as it can go. It really does play great with the action measuring 5/64ths on the treble side and 3/32nds on the bass side at the 14th fret. The guitar weighs 5lbs 12.1oz. The nut width is 1.695”. The neck thickness is .92” at the 1st fret and 1.02” at the 9th fret.

Comes with a non-original chipboard case that fits the guitar well. Two of the three hinges (opposite side of the latches) are broken. It still functions as it should but it will be taped for the journey. The pickup is not original of course but was added a long time ago. The volume knob works as it should but tone knob doesn’t seem to do much. Also, the last couple of frets on the high E string only don’t always ring out clearly because they end up hitting the pickup before the fret.
